Career Tasting Town

Terms and privacy

The rules of Career Tasting Town, and what we keep about you, in plain words. If you’re under 18, it’s a good idea to read this with a parent or another adult you trust.

Who we are

Career Tasting Town is run by Sreejeeth Ramprasad, in Bengaluru, India. “We” on this page means him. To ask anything, or to have your account deleted, write to hello@careertastingtown.com.

The people here are played by an AI

Everyone you meet in the town is a made-up character played by an AI: the people in the films, the people you talk to afterwards, and Meera, who shows you around. The films were written with an AI’s help too. They show real kinds of work, but the people, places and cases are made up, and some details may be wrong, or not how every workplace does things.

Nothing here is medical, legal, money or career advice. For your own health, see a doctor. For a big decision, talk to people who know you.

What we keep

When you join, we keep:

  • the first name and the first letter of the surname you type (your real name, or a made-up one if you’d rather)
  • your email address: the one Google gives us, or the one you type. If you sign in with a parent’s Google account or email, that’s the one we keep. If you use Google, Google also sends us your name, which we don’t keep.
  • if you joined with a class code, which class the code was for

We don’t ask for your phone number or where you live.

While you play, we keep:

  • how you made your character look
  • where you go: the buildings and rooms you go into, and the doors you stop to read
  • the films you watch, and when you pause, replay a line, leave one early or come back to one
  • the choice you make at each choice in a film, and how long you took to make it
  • every message you send the characters, and their replies: in Talk, when you pause a film to ask something, and to Meera
  • what you play on (a laptop or a phone, and its graphics chip) and how smoothly the game ran on it, so we can make it run better
  • when you press “Send to a parent”, and how
  • the internships you book with Meera, the dates you pick, and whether you came or booked again

We never mark your choices right or wrong, and we never give you a score.

If your town is opened by a payment, we keep that it was opened, and the payment’s reference numbers, its amount and its date. We never keep a parent’s card, bank account, UPI ID, phone number or email from a payment.

Emails we send you

We email you a link to sign in, when you ask for one; a welcome, when you join; a calendar invite for each day you book an internship ahead, for 5 to 5:30 in the evening, moved or cancelled when you change it; and a few reminders from Meera: the day after you join if you’ve nothing booked, the morning after you miss an internship, and if you haven’t come for a week, then once more after three weeks. That’s all. Every reminder has a link to stop them. We never email you about what you chose or wrote, and we never send ads.

Who reads it, and why

Sreejeeth reads it, with an AI’s help, for two reasons:

  • To keep you safe. See “Keeping you safe” below.
  • To make the game better: to see which kinds of work children are curious about, where they get lost, which films don’t work, and where the game runs slowly.

Nobody else sees it: not other players, not advertisers, and not your school (except to keep you safe, below). The one exception is what you choose to send a parent (see “Paying, and Send to a parent”). We never sell it. We’d share it with anyone else only if the law made us.

Keeping you safe

An AI reads every message you type to the characters, looking for signs that you might be unwell, upset, hurt or in danger. If it finds one, it tells Sreejeeth, and he reads it. The character also steps out of the story and suggests you talk to a parent or another adult you trust.

If we’re worried you’re in danger, Sreejeeth may write to you, or to a parent if he has a way to, so that an adult can help. Nothing is sent by itself: he decides. If you joined with a class code, we may tell your school, so that an adult there can help.

If you’re in danger right now, call 112. If you’d like to talk to someone about how you’re feeling, call Tele-MANAS on 14416. It’s free, and someone answers day and night.

Paying, and Send to a parent

Your first 10 internships are free. After that, the rest of the town opens when a parent pays, once. There is no subscription. We never ask you for money, a card or a bank account: you can’t pay inside the game. A parent pays on their own phone or computer, and sees the price before they pay. If you joined before 27 October 2026, your whole town stays open.

Because you try 10 internships before anyone pays, payments aren’t refunded. If the town ever won’t run on your laptop or phone, write to hello@careertastingtown.com within 7 days of paying, and the parent gets every rupee back, the same way they paid.

Send to a parent is a button. It makes a message from the internships you’ve tried and how you answered each one (from “No” to “Yes, lots!”), with a link to a page for your parent. You see the whole message before anything goes. Your phone’s own sharing opens (WhatsApp, email, or whatever you pick) and you choose who gets it. The message never has your name, your notes or anything you typed to a character.

We don’t see who you send it to, and sending it doesn’t give us their phone number or email. Anyone who has the link can open the page, which shows the same internships and answers, so send it only to a person you mean to. The link stops working after 14 days, or once your town is open.

Where it’s kept

  • Your account and everything you do are kept by Supabase, on computers in Mumbai.
  • The website runs on Vercel. Like every website, it briefly notes the internet address of the computer that connects.
  • Each message you send a character goes to Anthropic or OpenAI, the companies whose AI plays the characters, so that it can answer. Their computers are outside India. They don’t use what you write to train their AI.
  • A parent’s payment is taken by Razorpay, a payment company in India. The parent types their payment details (a card, UPI or bank account, and a phone number or email) in Razorpay’s window, not ours. Razorpay keeps them under its own privacy policy. We can see in Razorpay’s records that a payment was made, so that we can open your town and give a refund. The game itself keeps only the payment’s reference numbers, its amount and its date.
  • If something in the game goes wrong on your computer or phone, a short report goes to Sentry, so that we can fix it: what went wrong, where in the game you were, which browser and device you were using, and a number for your account, so that we can see what happened. Never your name, and never anything you write. Their computers are outside India.
  • Our emails are sent through Google Workspace, from hello@careertastingtown.com, and Google keeps a copy of each one. If you sign in with Google, Google knows you signed in here.
  • To keep you signed in, your browser keeps a small file called a cookie. Your computer also remembers your sound, voice speed and picture settings. That’s all: no ads, and nothing that follows you around other websites.

Signing in

There’s no password. Sign in with Google, or type your email and we’ll send you a link. If you can’t get into that email any more, write to hello@careertastingtown.com with the new email you’d like and what you remember about your account: the name you joined with, what your character looks like, buildings you went into. If it matches, we’ll move your account to the new email.

How long we keep it

As long as your account is open. To have it deleted, write to hello@careertastingtown.com from the email you sign in with (or, if you can’t, tell us what you remember about your account), so we know it’s you. We’ll delete your account and everything in it within 30 days, and you don’t need to give a reason. If we ever close the game, we’ll delete everything.

The rules

  • Keep private things private. Don’t tell the characters your full name, your school, where you live, your phone number or your email address.
  • Don’t use anyone else’s account.
  • Don’t try to trick the characters into saying something harmful, or to break into the game.

If you break these rules, we may close your account.

The game will change

We’re still building the town, so things will change, and some may stop working for a while. If we change this page in a way that matters, we’ll tell you in the game. The game, its films and its characters belong to us, so please don’t copy them. These terms follow the laws of India.

For parents and guardians

Career Tasting Town is made mostly for students in their teens, to see what different kinds of work are like before they choose a stream or a course. Anyone curious is welcome too, college students included. Sign-up asks for an email address (through Google, or typed), for sign-in links, calendar invites for the days your child books and a few reminders. It asks for no phone number, and children can use a made-up name if they’d rather. After the first 10 free internships, a parent pays, once; see “Paying, and Send to a parent” above. A parent pays through Razorpay, and the payment gives us no parent’s phone number or email. If your child plays and you’d like their account deleted, or have a question, write to hello@careertastingtown.com with the email address they sign in with.
